Product Overview

Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide (Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro) that pairs the ACTH(4-7) fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone with a C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro extension. The fragment retains no corticotropic (adrenal-stimulating) activity, and the Pro-Gly-Pro tail slows enzymatic degradation. In laboratory settings Semax is used to study melanocortin-derived peptides, neurotrophin expression and peptide-driven changes in brain gene expression.

Frequently asked questions

What form is Semax supplied in?
A lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder in a sealed 5 mg vial. Salt form, purity and identity data are listed on the certificate of analysis for each lot.

How should the vial be stored?
Keep the sealed vial at −20 °C, away from light and moisture, until use.

Is this product for human or veterinary use?
No. It is sold strictly for in vitro and laboratory research. Not for human or animal use.

All compounds referenced are supplied for laboratory and research applications only and are not for human consumption.

Semax is studied mostly through its effects on neurotrophins, the growth-factor proteins that regulate neuronal survival and plasticity. In rat hippocampus, researchers measured brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and its receptor TrkB after Semax administration and reported changes in both expression levels, making BDNF/TrkB signaling the best-characterized pathway in the Semax literature.1

Genome-wide studies have widened that picture. A transcriptome analysis of rat brain tissue under experimental conditions found that Semax altered the expression of genes linked to immune and vascular processes, suggesting the peptide’s activity extends beyond neurotrophin signaling.2
